PARENT COMMITTEE/VOLUNTEERING

When you enroll your child in River Valley School, you become a member of the River Valley School Society and you are encouraged to participate in the Parent Committee.  Parent Committee meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month at 2 pm in the Parent Room at the school.  All members are welcome to attend.

The Parent Committee is responsible for Community and Classroom Events, Community Service Programs, Volunteer Coordination and the annual Used Uniform Sale.

The Parent Committee voting members include the Chair and the Room Representatives for each classroom. Ex-officio members include Board Member Liaison and the School Director.

Chairs - Pam Valk, Cheri McCutcheon, and Stacey Deering
Creates agenda for and presides over monthly Business Meetings and portions of Community Meetings designated as general membership meetings for the purpose of budget approval and elections. Reports monthly to the Board of Trustees. Responsible for implementation of committee events and tasks.

Secretary
Keeps minutes of each PC Meeting. Provides typed copies of minutes for approval at following PC Meeting and distributes to appropriate parties. Keeps copies of agenda, minutes, and other business items on file and provides these to the school for permanent records. Responsible for meeting sign-in lists.

Board Liaison - Jill Stewart
Facilitates communication between the Board of Directors and the PC. Reports on PC activities at Board meetings, co-ordinates Board efforts with respect to PC activities, and provides feedback from Board to PC at monthly PC meetings.

School Director - Sharon Reib
Facilitates communication between the faculty and the PC. Reports on PC activities at faculty meetings, coordinates faculty efforts with respect to PC activities, and provides feedback from faculty to PC at monthly PC Meetings.

Room Representatives
Assists room parents and teachers with classroom efforts and reports needs and issues to Parent Committee if assistance is needed. Works with Volunteer Coordination and other committees to obtain the assistance of room parents and other volunteers for school-wide events.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Because parent involvement is essential to the school's success, families are encourage to volunteer in order to support special projects. The following are some volunteers opportunities for RVS parents.

Book Fairs
Organize book fair fundraisers as needed with our librarian. Coordinate dates, materials, finances and volunteers.

Clothes Closet
Donated items would be available for students to choose an article of clothing to borrow in the event they have come to school out of uniform. We are soliciting clean clothes in good condition without stains or tears to stock this closet. You may drop off your donation at the office anytime.

Communications/Public Relations
Assists Head of School in educating the public about River Valley School. Assists in coordinating external publicity for Parent Committee and school events. All communications/public relations' efforts shall be submitted for approval to the School Director.

Community Board
Update and maintain current information on community bulletin board in central area.

Community Service
Local, National & International Programs
Identifies community service opportunities on global, national and local level and present possibilities to Staff and Parent Committee. Organizes community service projects with Staff and Parent Committee approval. Works with Volunteer Coordination Committee and Faculty Liaison to coordinate annual planned outreach events. Global projects are entered into with the purpose of promoting global citizenship and awareness of international issues. Local initiatives focus on good citizenship and environmental awareness.

Fund Development
Board & Adminstration Liaisons
Organize and implement fund-raising events including the annual auction and dinner event to raise funds.

School Photographer
Organize school picture events.

Special Lunch Day
Organize food and other items for special lunch day.

Volunteer Coordination
Actively seeks parent and family involvement in school activities. Works with Room Parent Liaison in identifying volunteer opportunities and assists in gathering volunteers for events if needed. Identify families progress with volunteer hours and contacts them if needed.
