GROUND RULES
Since you have chosen to send your child to a school based upon Montessori philosophies, your child will be the most successful if you follow the same principles and expect the same standard of behaviour at home. The following rules are used in the classroom to help develop self-discipline:
| · |
Use low speaking voices inside. |
| · |
Walk to another child or adult to talk rather than shouting across the room. |
| · |
Walk in the classroom. Leave running, skipping, and jumping for outside. |
| · |
Use furniture properly. Sit erect in a chair. Do not climb on tables, chairs, shelves, etc. |
| · |
Show care and respect for all books and materials. |
| · |
Work with only one piece of material at a time. |
| · |
Replace materials on shelves in the same place and arrangement as they were when taken. |
The development of courtesy is encouraged by:
| · |
Behaving respectfully toward others. |
| · |
Listening to others without interrupting. |
| · |
Taking one's turn. |
| · |
Saying "please" and "thank you." |
| · |
Waiting until everyone is served at lunchtime before eating. |
| · |
Saying, "excuse me, please." |
| · |
Giving the children rights and duties, such as preparing the daily snack, keeping the room tidy, and being responsible for their own belongings, fosters a sense of responsibility. |
Independence is a major goal. Allow your child to do and think for himself as much as possible.
